Strategic Reader is based on a live mini-course, the Harvard Course in Reading and Study Strategies, offered by the Bureau of Study Counsel (BSC) at Harvard University. The course was created by William G. Perry, Jr., the founding director of the BSC, and has continuously evolved to reflect advances in the field of reading cognition and changes in reading demands and media. Having taken the course, taught it many times, designed and directed its major revisions and renovations, and now translated it into an online format, the authors are committed to integrating the core, durable wisdom of the original course with contemporary research and technology. As the current directors of the BSC and stewards of the course, Lipson and Reindl believe that Strategic Reader can introduce students everywhere to the powerful, creative, and transformative possibilities of reading with an inquiring mind.
