Pawpaw's Porch

Overview

Pawpaw's Porch is inspired by photos taken by the author's father of the wildlife that regularly visited his property. The author converted these photos into oil painting style images and captioned each with descriptive rhymes that make this a fun read aloud for children. Children and adult will love the calm, warm images of animals captured in unique circumstances. The Story Behind the Pictures: These images were originally photographs taken by my dad, known as Pawpaw Don to his grandchildren. I used photo software and editing tools to convert them into oil painting style images. Pawpaw Don was a lover of wildlife and had a talent for capturing unique images of all the critters who wandered through his yard. He was famous among friends and family for his photos of hummingbirds, deer, and the squirrels that he loved to feed pieces of peanut butter toast from the end of an outstretched fly swatter. His granddaughters especially loved when he taught them how to feed the squirrels in this fun way. When he became too sick to go outside, he continued capturing photos through the living room window while seated in his favorite blue armchair. This inspired the title of this picture book. Pawpaw Don was also a lover of plants and had spent 20+ years propagating Wandering Jews from the same original mother plant. These serve as the textbox borders throughout this story. Finally, Pawpaw Don was a lover of ""fancy"" writing, often creating ""art"" from text. Before emojis were a big thing, he enjoyed learning how to make expressions from text symbols on the keyboard. He would always post a witty caption to go along with each photo, the punnier the better. He is greatly missed and would be full of joy knowing that his images continue to bring happiness to others.: -)
