Pause has a vital message for all leaders: slow down... stop for a moment... rethink how you are leading. If you are ready to challenge yourself, to reflect on your impact as a leader, and to create a healthy environment in which people flourish, then this practical and engaging book is essential reading. - Madeleine Allen, Managing Director, Allen Training Associates Ltd. As leaders we can often forget that it is the small things that make the big difference... Pause resets our thinking around improving organisational performance. It does so by asking us to take time to understand the impact of our interactions with those around us. We are asked to consider ideas to become more effective in our influence. Ultimately impacting on our own, our team's and our organisation's performance. - Nicholas Lindsey, Information Manager, Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability In writing this ambitious book Karen has set out to challenge leadership conventions; if leadership matters to you, then Pause will resonate. Karen's honesty and visionary approach is insightful, innovative, but above all accessible. Providing the reader with a usable guide to address that most complex of issues, the leadership of people. I took a simple message away: change your habits and you will not only change your future for the better, but the future of the people around you. - Philip Dyer, Founder, Healthy Leaders Pause will make you do just that. We all need time to think - whether it's about the future, a current issue or a project you're working on; quality thinking time makes all the difference. Through real stories and anecdotes, theory and questions to make you think, Pause will make you recognise a lot from your work environment and get you started on the path to make time for yourself. When you do that, you'll definitely reap the benefits! Enjoy Pause and start to make time to pause. - Lorna Murphy, Operations Director, Abellio London Bus Leadership can be messy and complicated. Pause encourages you to recognise That's okay! and by giving yourself time to reflect, be honest and vulnerable about what drives you, you can bring about positive personal and organisation change. - Kieran O'Flaherty, HR Manager, British Film Institute If you are frustrated by conventional management styles and techniques and want to do something about it, Karen will tell you how. This is a manual for moving you and your colleagues to enjoyable, satisfying, high levels of performance. - Simon Dixon, CEO, Hatmill

Author Information

Karen Mason cares deeply about the experience people have at work and believes that leaders need to be equipped so they cultivate a healthy team climate. Karen has discovered that when people are aligned with the purpose of their work and encouraged to think for themselves, transformation in their engagement and productivity occurs. Through the power of courageous conversations and experiential learning, Karen inspires personal and organisational change. Sadly, when the pressure is on, investing time to develop an effective leadership style and management practice is for many a stretch too far, with the cost of not investing unapparent until it's too late. Karen brings extensive commercial and project management experience to her work. With a background in aerospace and defence, where she worked for over 20 years, Karen held senior management positions in Engineering, Procurement, Contract Management and HR until starting her own business in 2007. Since leaving the corporate world Karen has gone on to partner with a range of public, private and third sector organisations, supporting them to adapt and become more purposeful in their leadership approach.
