Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDr. Valerie Hart is an Associate Professor of Nursing in the College of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Southern Maine. She has been a Certified Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and maintained a private Psychotherapy practice since 1981. She teaches primarily in the Advanced Practice Psychiatric-Mental Health concentration, teaching individual, family and group psychotherapy. In addition she teaches evidence-based clinical research and advanced communication in the graduate program core courses. Her education includes a diploma from Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing, a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Boston College, a Masters in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Columbia University, and an EdD from the University of Maine, Orono. Her scholarly interests include: Communications practice for the Advanced Practice nurses; the role of the Nurse Psychotherapist; women's mental health issues including: Post Partum depression; Balance of work and personal life; Mother-Daughter relationships, Parenting Adult children; Compassion Fatigue.
