Reviews

Sam's books have been faithfully utilized for personal examination, family devotion, and group bible study. The responses he receives, particularly from his first devotional, SonLight, are reliably generous, constant, and heart-warming. I've always said, If you want to know the writer, read their books, and knowing and understanding Sam is no different. But you will consistently find in Sam's books that they aren't about Sam. Though he uses personal antidotes that provide us with emotional access to the point he's about to make, all his books are about Christ. He doesn't point you to himself; he points you to the One who can actually save you from this world and equip you with a freedom that can never be taken away. He points you to our living savior Jesus Christ, over and over again. This new book, Pathways, is no different. But as his publisher, I must say Sam is at his best here. All of his 42 years of invaluable experience learning to genuinely love people and minister to them, all of this treasured knowledge is applied to these nearly 500 pages. He forges a path to help us assimilate the Old Testament in a fresh and personal manner, inspiring us to read on using insights only Sam could provide. - Lisa Soland, Senior Editor of Climbing Angel Publishing There is only one God, one who is completely Holy. There is only one kind of person in comparison to this Holy God, and that is a wholly sinful person. There is only one way a sinner is accepted by God, and this is only by grace on the basis of faith. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in God alone. - Quoted from PATHWAYS, January 6, regarding Genesis 14-16 Gratitude should be included in our conversations with God and others, sharing how grateful we are for who God is and what He has done. Tell others regularly of your sincere gratitude for their kindness, and you will experience the power of gratitude. Gratitude, expressed to God and others produces a grateful spirit and poisons a selfish mindset. - Quoted from PATHWAYS, May 11, regarding 2 Chronicles 22-24 Sometimes, the strongholds are not before us. The entrenched and fortified bastions of evil are within us. They are walls of selfishness, fear, and hatred-rock-like castles of corrupt thinking. These Jerichos of the mind must also come down if we are to truly be free. - Quoted from PATHWAYS, March 6, regarding the Wall of Jericho Our place of lament should not be social media. Our Father on the throne of heaven and not our friends on Facebook should hear the message of our misery. A lamentation is not an online rant but divinely directed worship when we cast our burdens on the Lord and call on Him to sustain us (Ps. 55:22). It is not sinful to bring our complaints to the Lord. - Quoted from PATHWAYS, November 12, regarding Jeremiah in Lamentations 4-5
