Pathomechanics of Lower Limb Dysfunctions: Prevention and Manual Therapy: 2nd edition

Overview

"Dr. Naveen Kumar (P.T.), MISCP(Ireland), MIAP, graduated from the Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR), India, in 2002 and completed his M.P.T in Orthopaedics in 2009. The book aims to help the final physiotherapy year B.P.T (Bachelor Physiotherapy)/D.P.T (Doctor of Physiotherapy) students, practising physiotherapists, and those doing PhD in Lower limb dysfunctions, mainly in Knee arthritis. While orthopaedic Manual Therapy is a subset of Physiotherapy, the pathomechanics of the lower limb proposed by Dr. Naveen is a unique subset. This book includes a case study and research on ""Knee Dysfunction Leading to Medial/Varus Knee Arthritis: Its Pathomechanics and Manual therapy treatment."" approved by the ethics committee of BMMRC, Hyderabad, Telangana. India.N0: 939/BMMRC/IEC approval/2020. Dr. Naveen has proposed the pathomechanics of Medial/varus knee arthritis and lateral/Valgus knee arthritis and other forms, which stem from knee dysfunctions and clinically proved by treating hundreds of patients, Thereby revolutionizing the exact cause of knee arthritis. With this knowledge, one can diagnose knee dysfunctions early and treat them more accurately. Based on the lower limb pathomechanics, the Hesch method of spring test is applied on the knee, hip and foot dysfunctions to diagnose and treat accurately. Recent research articles have proved the mechanics of synovial fluid influx and outflux, Condylar cartilage nutrition, Joint stability and Vascular flow in relation to joint movement and pressure variation inside the joint. Once the joint's normal mechanics and range of motion are restored, it will help us understand how knee arthritis can become normal with Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and avoid most knee replacement surgeries. The author's innovative lower limb pathomechanics will give insight into how the Varus and Valgus knee will affect the mechanics of the hip and foot and vice versa. Therefore, these pathomechanics will guide a physiotherapist to treat lower limb dysfunctions more accurately. In addition, to proactively prevent injuries and reduce the risk of recurrence, how physiotherapists employ an analytical approach to assess the physical stress exerted on specific tissues based on an individual's lifestyle. Subsequently, they provide tailored recommendations for graded strengthening exercises, aligning with the ""physical stress versus tissue strength, adaptation, and graded strengthening theory."" This approach involves a detailed examination of how physical stress influences specific tissues and guides the prescription of exercises that gradually enhance tissue strength, fostering adaptation and minimizing the likelihood of dysfunction."
