Overview

The hope for this book is to bring to light, some of the feelings, confusion and complications, which make the pastoral transition experience difficult for both pastors and their congregations. It establishes common categories and language to facilitate richer and deeper conversations between pastor and people about the shared experience of congregational life and pastoral transition. It provides direction to encourage careful consideration of some of the causes and effects of pastoral change which may be one of the major factors for congregational pastoral transition passivity. Lastly, it explores ways of using the process of pastoral change to facilitate improved pastor/congregation relationship.

Author Information

Reverend Dr. Neal E. Pearson is a graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and the Center for Urban Ministerial Education (CUME), where he received his Masters of Arts in Urban Ministry, with a concentration in Religious Education in 1996. In 2003 he received his equivalency Master of Divinity Degree which was followed by a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in May 2005. Rev. Dr. Neal E. Pearson, was installed as the Pastor of St. John's Baptist Church, Woburn, Massachusetts in 2005. He and his wife, Rev. Esther are married for over 40 years and have one daughter, Tiffini Pearson-Callion and grandson, Levi.
