He has worked as a professional actor and director throughout the United States, earned advanced degrees from Columbia and Indiana Universities, received numerous fellowships (including one from the German Academic Exchange Service to begin research on this book), published widely in scholarly journals, and is presently Chairman of the Department of Performing Arts at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
