Author Information

World War II veteran Jim Hall made his first parachute jump in 1949. He went on to own a professional parachuting company and created a magnet for adventurers. He was co-creator of the TV series Ripcord that put skydiving before millions of viewers and was based on these adventures in Mexico. He was awarded the Leo Stevens Medal for safety in parachuting because of his development of the Buddy System of freefall training for high altitudes for test pilots and astronauts. In 1965 he helped develop and live-tested the ejection seat for the high-speed F102/F106 Fighter Interceptors, and in 1967 he created the Air Force's training film on surviving an ejection or bailout.
