Papaya with Sugar: An Adventure in the Southern Seas

Overview

Sailing adventure and travel narrative from Tahiti and Bora Bora to Rio. A true memoir. If you like stories about interesting places and people, or sport, boating, or exotic islands, then this is the one to read. Travelling on land and with a friend on a sail boat around French Polynesia, including the beautiful island of Tahiti, and then on to Argentina and Brazil it sparkles with nature and fun. It takes place over eighteen months and Alice takes the reader with her. There is little technical language so you don't need to be a sailor. This story is exciting and erudite. It is also occasionally frightening. It is a book that shows us the best of cultures and the worst of governments. The essence of each country is distilled and savoured. She is an intrepid traveller and you don't need to be, to enjoy this delightful, exotic, warm book.
