* An intriguing Eastern Front diary revealing the German struggle during the final months of the war This is the war diary of Unteroffizier Eduard Bodenmuller, who served in the 4th Company of Panzer Regiment Brandenburg, part of Panzergrenadier Division Brandenburg, and covers the period of February to April 1945 on the Eastern Front. Bodenmuller's company was equipped with Panther tanks, and he and his comrades were involved in intense combat with the advancing Red Army, mostly in Silesia. His diary entries are concise yet also provide a lot of information which more extensive memoirs omit. In particular, the immediacy of his notes is refreshing, providing frank admissions of ammunition shortages and increasing losses as inexperienced and under supplied German troops battled against the Soviets. He also provides insight into German and Soviet combat tactics and methods during the final months of the war, including the great difficulties the Panthers faced in combating the heavy Josef Stalin tank. Aaron Stephen Hamilton has spent the last twenty-five years researching and analyzing the final year of military conflict during World War II in Europe. He is an academically trained historian who holds a Bachelors and Master's degree in History, as well as the Field Historian designator awarded by the U.S. Army's Combat Studies Institute. His multi-volume, The Oder Front 1945 became the basis for the U.S. Army Europe's first Staff Ride and Battle Book regarding the battle of the Seelow Heights.
