Pahari Sanyal, (Bengali: ) (22 February, 1906-10 February, 1974) born Nagendranath Sanyal, was a stalwart Bengali character actor whose status was as towering as that of others such as Chhabi Biswas and Kamal Mitra. Sanyal acted in many famous Bengali films Like Harano Sur , Bhanu Goyenda Jahar Assistant , Shilpi etc. Besides being an adept character actor, Sanyal gave a superlative performance in his portrayal of iconoclastic Bengali reformer Vidyasagar. He played a small but meaty role of an ornithologist in Ray's timeless classic Kanchenjungha. He was seen in some of the acclaimed Hindi films such as Raj Kapoor starrer Jagte Raho and English films such as Merchant-Ivory venture, The Householder.
