OverviewThis book describes the results of a study of children suffering from cerebral palsy (CP) born between 1938 and 1953 who were living in Edinburgh. Its aims were to ascertain the prevalence of CP in Edinburgh and to study its causes and its effects on patients and their families. During the investigation it became increasingly apparent that the categories which then comprised CP did not allow for the accurate classification of patients by neurological findings. Gradually a new classification of CP by neurological findings was evolved. This is what the book describes. This is a new addition to the MacKeith Press series, Classics in Developmental Medicine. It was first published in 1964. Ingram was an eminent paediatric neurologist when paediatric neurology was not an established specialty. He was a widely published innovator in the field. Each year, the European Academy of Childhood Disability presents a lecture named in his honour.
