Oxford Handbook of Urology

Overview

The new fifth edition of the Oxford Handbook of Urology is a comprehensive and concise handbook encompassing the whole of urology in an easily digestible format with the most current and up-to-date guidelines and recommendations. It spans all topics including urological cancer, stones, infection, bladder outlet obstruction, incontinence, paediatric urology, trauma and erectile dysfunction, and male infertility. Essentially, it also covers the basics of patient assessment, investigation, and important basic science, helpful not only to urology doctors taking the FRCS exam, but also a useful tool particularly for medical students, general surgeons, A&E doctors, GPs, nurses, and allied health professionals. It provides bite-sized topics covering every part of the urology curriculum and is valuable as a quick reference during clinical duties in clinics, theatre, A&E, on call, and as a reference text for revision.

Reviews

You have to hand it to Oxford University Press, they continue to relentlessly churn out superb books in their outstanding Oxford Medical Handbooks series and this book is no exception. Like many of its siblings in this series, it is more than just a simple handbook. This is a very good textbook of urology ideal for both trainees and generalists within the speciality as well as primary care personnel. * Dr Harry Brown MBChB, Glycosmedia * Review from previous edition The book covers the breadth of urology and its brevity for each topic makes it accessible to the generalist but it has sufficient depth (and good referencing) to be of use to specialist trainees. I regularly recommend this book to medical students and junior colleagues. * BMA Book Awards 2014. Highly Commended * Physicians appreciate practical and quite exhaustive sources of information which aim to facilitate procedures or provide support with their daily practice... This pocketbook is undoubtedly an outstanding tool for everyone and we recommend it to all urologists, regardless of their level of practice. * European Urology Today * The Oxford Medical Handbooks have always impressed me for how accessible and easy to understand they are, whilst also having an impressive amount of detail. This very much applies to this third edition of the Oxford Handbook of Urology. Firstly the book has an excellent layout with common and important topics broken down into sensible headings. It is very easy to find what you need within the book and there is an appropriate distribution of detail with common topics being thoroughly explained... The core topics are covered with surprising detail for a handbook. On top of this there is coverage of topics relevant for the practice of urology such as basic renal physiology and how to communicate effectively with patients, making a very rounded and complete handbook for this field, * Urology News, August 2013 *
