As Chief Nurse Adviser for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society and Chair of the Royal College of Nursing Rheumatology Forum she has been involved in a range of national policy development. She is a strong advocate for a patient centred approach to care and has participated in innovation and improvement projects to develop informed decision-making tools and patient pathways. Susan was awarded Professional Nurse of the Year (2000) Joint Winner for her innovations in nurse led clinics and received a British Healthcare Professionals in Rheumatology honorary membership award (2006) for her contribution to rheumatology care.
