Overview

In the early years of the twenty-first century, many older gay men, having survived a devastating pandemic (AIDS), may have found themselves dealing with a sense of survivor guilt, if only with having to answer these two quandaries: Why am I here? & Why did I survive? Here is the story of two gay men, New York theater professionals living in the epicenter of AIDS, which is decimating their community. Harold and James live together in a mutually beneficial, monogamous, HIV-negative, and loving relationship for almost fifteen years. On a rainy April Fools' Day, that love is abruptly challenged with the diagnosis of a fatal illness, which is not AIDS related. Their circle of existence grows tighter as they struggle unsuccessfully toward inevitable loss.Yet, in that loss, surprisingly positive things are found.

Author Information

J L HOMAN is a published author with a BA in English from the University of Wisconsin/Madison, and lives in western Massachusetts. The first member of either parent's family to achieve a college degree, he lived twenty-seven years in Manhattan, kicking legs and singing songs in three Broadway musicals, and traveled North America in several musical tours. He's won scholarships with two international dance companies; survived the AIDS pandemic; and is attempting to rewrite the narrative of his life, while dealing daily with the existential angst and ironies that come with growing older and learning to let go. As a ""gypsy"" in three Broadway shows, he worked with Carol Channing, Donnie Osmond, and David Cassidy, and was seen as a ""Rocker"" in two Radio City spectaculars for the Ginger Rogers and Carol Lawrence. He received his Actors' Equity Association membership card from St. Louis Municipal Opera's 1975 Summer Musical season. His last two Broadway shows transferred from Connecticut's Goodspeed Light Opera. His two books, 'OUT HERE IN THE STARS A Memoir of Love, Loss & Learning to Let Go, and REVERIE ALONE WILL DO A Collection of Reflections, are also available through Amazon.com/books.
