Our Hope for Gene Therapy

Overview

A diagnosis of choroideremia once predicted a history of gradual vision loss. Dedicated doctors and researchers like Ian MacDonald are determined to change that, raising money for research, and exploring and testing possible treatments. Our Hope for Gene Therapy traces developments in eye genetics and our understanding of choroideremia, an inherited retinal disorder. The span of Dr. MacDonald's career, led to the first-in-Canada test of an experimental gene therapy to halt its progression in 2015. Nothing about the experiment was simple-but it taught Dr. MacDonald and his team a great deal and laid the foundations of future possibilities for choroideremia patients around the world. Infused with humanity and personal experiences, Our Hope for Gene Therapy examines a possible future treatment for vision loss.
