Our Church Mothers contains seven, first-person letters from formidable historical women, who crafted for themselves roles of strategic importance in the history of Christianity. You will become personally familiar with Katharina Luther, first lady of the Reformation; Susanna Wesley, the Mother of Methodism; Catherine Booth, co-founder of the Salvation Army; Mary, the Mother of Jesus; St. Clare, best friend of Francis of Assisi; Mother Teresa of Calcutta; and Judge Deborah, as a forerunner. You will be moved as you read these heroines' letters written to encourage today's believers as they share their thoughts, feelings and daring experiences as they were led by the Spirit of God. Living in different countries, centuries and cultures, they certainly share admirable characteristics in sacrificially choosing to address ignored human needs they observed with exceptional faith and action. A common theme among these women is that not only their own children, but their constituents as well, recognized them as exceptional Mother figures and as spiritual leaders anointed by God. Each of these women was addressed as Mother, even though three of them never had children by birth. The five mothers, who were also wives, ably supported their husbands as helpmates while pursuing their own spiritual calling. None of these women allowed negative social pressures to prevent them from achieving their ministry goals. All seven women have name recognition today, yet people are surprised to learn that Mother Teresa was actually an Irish nun born in Albania who became a citizen of India. Did you know the monk, Martin Luther, at age 41 took a wife who was a 26 year old former nun who bore him 6 children; or the Salvation Army founders, William and Catherine Booth's love story rivals that of the Barrett Brownings, and that Judge Deborah was the Joan of Arc of her day? I am impressed by this unique book of fictitious letters from saintly women of faith including two of my favorites, St. Clare and St. Teresa of Calcutta. Based on solid history, the author creatively pens would be letters directly from these saints and saintly Catholic and Protestant women of God in a way that touches everyone across church boundaries today. It is very creative and effective in bringing these women to life for the modern reader today. I am happy to endorse this most creative work! Rev. Gwen Ehrenborg is a gifted storyteller who has an energetic style of sharing Biblical truths with a warmth and relevance upon a sound theological foundation. Her heart's desire is to inspire people to know Jesus Christ well, as they joyfully fulfill God's plan for their lives. Gwen has been writing, speaking and dramatizing compelling stories for over 35 years through her pastoral ministry and non-profit drama ministry, Living Witnesses. Pastor Gwen not only served 5 California congregations with her clergy husband, but also travels with her drama ministry portraying seven leading women of Church history. Beginning in l984, these well researched, one-woman dramatizations have been enthusiastically received by Catholics and Protestants alike across America. Pastor Gwen is an ordained Minister and General Evangelist in the United Methodist Church, which allows her to represent the denomination throughout all nations. She brings to her teaching and preaching a variety of life experiences having served in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa as a single missionary and then in Mexico with her late-husband. Suddenly widowed at age 27 while expecting her first child, she soon attended Fuller Theological Seminary to earn a Masters of Divinity degree. Seminary served her very well because after three years she met and married a fellow student, Todd Ehrenborg. Gwen has said ever since, that rather than staying a widow, she has been twice blessed by God with the gift of two amazing husbands in her lifetime. In 2004, Rev. Ehrenborg founded a second non-profit organization, Supporting Women In Ministry International, (S.W.I.M), which is a support network for Christian women of all ages and backgrounds. It offers retreats, conferences, mentoring, support groups, an ordination process and prayer intercession, particularly for women in ministry leadership roles. After 14 years of serving as President of the Board of Directors, she now travels as the ministry's International Ambassador. Gwen's creative gifts and primary research have enabled her to write accurate dramatic presentations, which have been highly praised by pastors for their masterful ability to educate, entertain and inspire their congregations. Over the years, Rev. Ehrenborg has written and taught many Biblical program series for church conferences, retreats and study groups. Today, Gwen is researching and writing two more books. Pastor Gwen thoroughly enjoys travelling, especially when leading tour groups to historic Christian sites in Europe and the Holy Land. She loves to play her piano and can be found at home spontaneously singing silly songs in a Cinderelli mouse voice. Gwen lives on Camano Island, WA with her husband and they have three adult children and the cutest granddaughter!
