Reviews

Describes the characteristics and function of blood, and its importance to all parts of the body. The photographs fit the text well and show great detail. The facts are accurate except for one page that I think might lead to misconceptions with early readers. It describes blood as taking food to our bodies. It is possible that young children may think that blood actually takes the actual food around our bodies. It seems there might be another, simple, way of describing the process. Clark County School District Library Services 10/5/2010-- Clark County School District Library Services In the book Our Blood, students learn what blood is how it travels through the body, and how it helps us. - B. Monroe, Norview Middle School Norfolk Public Schools3/15/2010-- Norfolk Public Schools Part of the series of the 8 books entitled Our Bodies. This volume includes both a table of contents and an index, features are requiring to teach non-fiction features. There is also a glossary. I will definitely pursue the purchase of other books in this series. -Karen Pulver Arlington Independent School District 2/14/2010-- Arlington Independent School District This early reading series engages young children in learning about their bodies and the functions of different parts of the human body. Each book begins with a general explanation and labeling of outside and inside body parts. The text then moves into a specific body part, its function, and how to keep it healthy. Large bold photographs and simple illustrations assist in understanding each concept. A table of contents, quiz, and picture glossary assist the youngest students with beginning exploration and research. Consultants used in creating the series include a physician for content and a reading specialist for literacy. Compared to other series about the body, this one is structured with just the right mix of questions, content, and repetition to hold the interest of your youngest readers. Index.
