Overview

The main goal of this book is to provide a collection of essays (formerly only available separately in various academic journals) that offer untraditional and original exegetical insights into, or solutions to, popular or problematic Old Testament texts and topics. It illustrates the science and art of exegesis by an author within a broad evangelical context and demonstrates the interpretive value of reading biblical texts without prejudice to tradition and with careful attention to their historical and cultural contexts.

"""""This collection of exegetical studies is a great help for students and scholars alike. Marlowe has chosen texts that are highly relevant theologically, and therefore worth studying in detail. His analyses fill an important gap by focusing with great care on structural and syntactical aspects, often providing helpful insights that provoke the reader to reconsider seemingly obvious interpretations."""" --Markus Zehnder, Biola University """"Professor Marlowe not only offers readers a clinic in contextual exegesis, he tackles several difficult passages, offering fresh interpretations. What I especially appreciate about Marlowe's careful, critical approach is that he does not force texts into traditional straitjackets; rather, he allows the biblical text, understood against the backdrop of the ancient Near East, to speak for itself. This book will serve both scholar and student well."""" --Craig A. Evans, Houston Baptist University"
