Overview

The Oromo people are the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia, com-prising approximately 50% of the population. Despite their size and long history in the region, the Oromo have faced significant persecution and marginalization under successive Ethiopian rulers, including acts of genocide. This book aims to shed light on the plight of the Oromo people throughout their history in Ethiopia, focusing primarily on the atrocities committed against them in recent decades. It is a com- prehensive account of the persecution and genocide crimes that have been perpetrated against the Oromo people under different Ethiopian governments since the overthrow of Emperor Haile Se- lassie in 1974. The book covers a range of topics related to the Oromo experi- ence, including historical background, cultural identity, political struggles, human rights abuses, and the ongoing movement for Oromo liberation. By providing a detailed and nuanced under- standing of the Oromo people's history and current situation, this book seeks to contribute to ongoing efforts to bring justice and ac- countability for the crimes committed against them. The Oromo people have suffered greatly, but their resilience and determination to secure their rights and freedoms continue to in- spire hope. It is my hope that this book will help to raise awareness of their plight and to contribute to the ongoing struggle for justice and human rights for all marginalized communities in Ethiopia.
