OverviewThis book proposes to examine 2 groups of questions relating firstly to the reason for the persistence of underdevelopment by presenting the economic, environmental and other factors that explain the persistence of underdevelopment in the DRC (the when and the why). Secondly, it looks at the political strategies and priority territorial areas (the how and where) needed to bring about a sustainable transition in the development of both the country and the region. Respectively, the research concludes that it was around the 1970s that the development problem was triggered by the Zairianization policy. Secondly, the country's historical and institutional development lag, combined with a vicious demographic circle, is slowing down the transition to sustainable development. Thirdly, 3 policies are proposed: firstly, a heterogeneous education system; secondly, industrialization, followed by import substitution; and thirdly, the creation of a financial market. Fourthly, the final chapter details the potential for energy, mining, agriculture and, consequently, industry, by province.
