OverviewCertain constructs and theories occupy a prominent position in the specialist literature on management and organisational research. Organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) is one such construct, with a large number of studies from all over the world. With the ongoing progress of globalisation and internationalisation, companies are increasingly conducting business across national borders or even expanding into foreign contexts, which increases the need to understand constructs such as OCB on a global level. OCB describes individual behaviour that is not part of the formal job role or employment contract, and is therefore not remunerated by the formal reward system, but which, taken as a whole, increases the successful functioning of a company. This is also referred to as voluntary work engagement. Based on past and current OCB research, the author develops theories that apply to voluntary work engagement and are valid across cultural and national boundaries.
