OverviewOreo's Adventures: Oreo in the Orphanage, is based on the true life adventures of our dog Oreo and the children that love him. We began our journey to adopt our children in April of 2022. Along the process to bring our children home, we discovered that Andrie had his very own dog. The director at the orphanage had purchased a puppy for Andrie a few years back and the two were best friends. Andrie was fully responsible for all of Oreo's care. He made sure that Oreo had food, water, and stayed clean. The director informed us that Andrie was aware that once he was adopted Oreo would have to remain behind in the orphanage. Seeing how much Andrie loved Oreo and how close they were, we knew that we had to adopt Oreo. On a bi-weekly zoom meeting with the children, I figured out how to ask them, in Tagalog, if they would like for us to adopt Oreo and bring him home with them. All three children were excited and so happy to learn that Oreo would not be left behind when they came home to America. We began the long process to get everything in place for Oreo's travel home. The children shared with us the stories of Oreo's adventures at the children's home with them. We learned that he is very smart and very protective of Andrie. They laughed as they shared stories in which Oreo ended up in complicated situations. The first book, Oreo in the Orphanage, centers around Andrie meeting Oreo and the two of them growing together. It also highlights some of those stories the children shared with us. The second book, Oreo at the Airport, will be based off Andrie and his sisters learning that they have a forever family that will adopt them and Oreo. It will share the story of children who waited nine years for a family and a family willing to do all they can to make sure the children do not have to lose their most beloved dog in the process. Then, the story will share the exciting events of Oreo escaping as the workers at the airport try to load him onto the plane to fly to America. It will highlight Oreo's ability to evade the airport employees, pet transporters, and security for three days as they try to locate him and return him to his family. Finally, the last book, Oreo on the Farm, will continue to showcase Oreo's sense of adventure as he and the children adjusts to their new home in America. What will Oreo do when he meets his new dog siblings? How will he interact with the cows? What about those deer? Everything about Oreo's new home is different and exciting for him to experience. How can Oreo's fun and energetic personality sometimes disrupt the day of an unexpected animal? All in all, Oreo is a faithful and loving dog to his family. He is a leader among the dogs in our home and he has the best tail wag when he comes to greet you. We hope that you and your children will enjoy Oreo's Adventures, especially with the realization that the stories are based on a real family, real children, and our very own real-life Oreo!
