They live in family groups and can do amazing things. Orcas: Beautiful, Intelligent, Talkative, Ferocious, and Fascinating! shares information about them in a clear way for children. Melanie Richardson Dundy begins by showing the body structure of an orca and explaining its main features. She describes its qualities, abilities, and physical characteristics. She describes different places where orcas can be found and how they interact and communicate with each other. There are many interesting facts. The book tells the story of Stumpy, an orca that lost part of her dorsal fin in an accident, and how she has lived in different pods with the support of other orcas. In the end, the book concludes with tips to preserve the oceans and help these creatures. I thought Orcas was fascinating because it is an entertaining and informative work. Melanie Richardson Dundy uses down-to-earth language and shares a lot of information. The content is well-organized and developed. The author explains how orcas use their echolocation process to locate objects and how these mammals feed and breathe. I liked the visual style, as although the main character is cartoon-like, the photographs are beautiful and you can view orcas from different angles and in action. Stumpy's story captured my attention because it shows how orcas collaborate and how intelligent they are. I recommend this book to encourage children to learn more about nature. the oceans, and these beautiful creatures.
