OverviewAmong the agro-industrial by-products used in ruminant feed, orange bagasse stands out for its nutritional value, which is similar to that of grains, and its high acceptance by animals. However, improper storage of this by-product leads to a rapid decline in its nutritional value and the development of undesirable microorganisms, which when ingested cause damage to the health of the herd, in addition to producing slurry, which in contact with the water table causes contamination. Due to this problem, the industry uses pelletization to increase shelf life, but this process often makes the feed financially unviable for the producer, and silage may be more economically viable. In this sense, this book addresses issues that have not yet been clarified regarding the use of orange bagasse silage as a substitute for corn in the diet of confined sheep, from the characteristics of silage and animal performance to meat quality.
