Author Information

Carrie Newlands is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. She was appointed in 2003 following training in Ireland and the south of England. She is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in the exit FRCS OMFS and National Clinical Lead for the Department of Health e-Learning project in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Her interests include medical education and the management and reconstruction of patients with skin cancer, facial deformity and salivary gland disorders. Cyrus Kerawala graduated from the University of London with honours degrees in both dentistry (The London Hospital, 1985) and medicine (St George's Hospital, 1992). After specialist training in the North East of England he was appointed as a Consultant in September 1999 and spent eight years at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke before moving to join the Head and Neck Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital in May 2008. His main research areas concern free tissue transfer, marginal control of disease and management of the neck. He is an examiner for the exit FRCS and in July 2013 was appointed as Clinical Lead for the NICE guidelines in upper airways tract cancer.
