Apenas se comenz a dividir el da en horas, personas de diversas tradiciones religiosas incluyendo el judasmo y el cristianismo, han marcado el tiempo con la oracin. La ""Liturgia de las Horas"", tambien conocida como el Oficio Diario, nos ha recordado a lo largo de los tiempos que Dios nos acompaa a traves del da. Las oraciones del Oficio Diario proveen una manera para que la comunidad de fe se una en oracin, ya este esa comunidad reunida en un lugar comn o cada individuo aparte. El Libro de Oracin Comn de la Iglesia Episcopal contiene una seccin titulada 'El Oficio Diario' donde se encuentran hermosos servicios para la hora matutina, del medioda, al anochecer y para la noche/vespertina (pgs. 36-112). El libro, 'Oracin Diaria para Todos los Tiempos', ofrece una versin abreviada donde un servicio completo se realiza en una o dos pginas como mximo para de esa manera eliminar el intercambio de libros de oracin e himnarios. Este recurso ha sido verstilmente diseado para ser utilizado por individuos, grupos pequeos y/o congregaciones. Provee mltiples imgenes de Dios con lenguaje inclusivo y a su vez ofrece una variedad de generos literarios (poesa, meditaciones, y oraciones) provenientes de diversas comunidades de fe. Daily Prayer for All Seasons offers a variation on that theme, a shortened version, where a complete service covers one or two pages at most, thereby eliminating the need to shuffle prayer books and hymnals.
