Overview

There are many books about Opus Dei written in Spanish but the same cannot be said for English language. Especially absent are the books with a critical point of view. I think the English reader will be interested in getting a better knowledge on one of the most unknown Catholic organizations. The present book is focused on some critical aspects of the theology of Opus Dei, considered essential. It is not intended to be an exhaustive study, whether from the historical, canonical or theological points of view. We will focus on particular aspects of a very wide and complex reality, analyzing them from historical sources (analytical approach) as well as personal experiences (existential approach). In addition, this English edition includes historical documents absent in the Spanish edition (the Regulations of 1941, several letters of Escriva to Franco, documents about Escriva's request for being appointed bishop, etc.), which were previously published on the website Opuslibros.org. Those documents were drawn from the National Foundation Francisco Franco and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain. To whom is this book? In the first place, this book is for former members who have suffered due to Opus Dei and are seeking for answers. Then, those who -without being members- have been affected by Opus Dei because of working relationships or family ties. Of course, this book does not have all the answers but it is possible to find here important questions. And third, this book is for anyone who wish to know the most intimate thought of Escriva -on the sources available today- and has not had access to all those documents or has not been able to carry out a critical reading of them. Finally, this book is for researchers who want to look deeply into the interior world of Opus Dei.
