OverviewThe development of rural communities depends on the presence of energy and water. It is required for main dwellers activities. The continuous increase of population and need for the development of this remote areas causing increasing of electricity demand. On the other side, the shortage in fossil fuels for power stations and high cost of grid extensions led to use of renewable energy sources in remote areas. Renewable resources can make significant contributions to electricity supply with zero or reduced environmental emissions. This study aims to investigate the economic sizing of hybrid energy system consisting of PV modules, wind turbine, batteries and backup generator in Tor Sinai city. The proposed system supplies the expected electrical loads to community consisting of 15 families. It also supplies clean potable water using Ultra Violet and ozone generator technologies for well-water disinfection. HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable) simulation software is used to evaluate the system performance, optimal configuration according to Net Present Cost (NPC), sensitivity analysis and pollutant gas emissions.
