Reinhard Strohm studierte Musikwissenschaft, Italianistik und Violine in München, Pisa, Mailand und Berlin. Er unterrichtete am King’s College, an der University of London (1975–1983, 1991–1996), an der Yale University (1983–1990) und an der University of Oxford (1996–2010).
