Reviews

'25 Years of the Manhattan Theatre Club' is necessary reading for anyone with a passion for theatre. (Terrence McNally, Playwright) Manhattan Theatre Club has contributed to more new and exciting theatre, and developed more creative talent in the past 25 years than almost any place I can think of. It was a joy to be able to perform on their stages. (Jane Alexander, Actress) A lively, detailed account of one of New York's premiere theater organizations. Mr. Pereira captures the spirit of both the institution and the individuals who created it. (Edwin Wilson, Critic) John W. Pereira gives a detailed account of the sweat, luck, courage, and art that has sustained the Manhattan Theatre Club across 25 creative seasons. 'Opening Nights' is a valuable theatrical saga. (Robert Marx, Executive Director, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts) '25 Years of the Manhattan Theatre Club' is not only an invaluable record of a landmark theatre company, but a history of the American theatre as well. (Bernadette Peters, Actress) A fascinating and useful chronicle of a premiere American theatre institution. (John Patrick Shanley, Playwright) A lively, thorough, and perceptive adventure story. Founding and maintaining a theater in New York is an adventure, and John Pereira has captured its spirit. (Stanley Kauffmann, Critic) 'Opening Nights' is that rare book which will please not only scholars but also anyone with a more than casual interest in the American theatre. Pereira's account of one of the most important of our New York companies is thorough, carefully researched, and above all entertaining and readable. No one's theatre library should be without it. (Ralph Allen, Producer)
