Overview""Open Sesame"" is an English-language teaching series for young children, which features the Muppets of ""Sesame Street"". Students begin the course by learning basic communicative skills, and then proceed to the development of higher cognitive skills. At every stage of the series, lessons focus on topics relevant and interesting to children. At the beginner levels, topics include the family, food and school. At the higher levels, the topics expand in order to teach both language and grammar. Each series of books in the course revolves around one Muppet character, and includes a student's book, a teacher's book, an activity book, duplicating masters and cassettes. The stage at which students enter ""Open Sesame"" depends on their oral language foundation and their familiarity with reading and writing in English. There are three series at the beginner level, two at the intermediate level, and two advanced. In addition, the course has supporting picture cards, wall charts and picture dictionaries.
