Author Information

The author, Jana Kristl, is a Czech-American biologist and mother of two. She obtained her Ph.D. in biology at the Czech Academy of Sciences. During the Russian occupation of former Czechoslovakia, she immigrated to Sweden, and later to the United States. She has also written a screenplay, American Music. Melinda Braun, the illustrator, grew up in Wisconsin and received her Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and English from the University of Minnesota. Currently, she lives in the Twin Cities with her husband and daughter. She loves hiking and camping. Her first children's book, Luella, is the story of an orphan duck who thinks it is a dog. Melinda is a published Simon and Schuster author in the category of Young Adult Fiction, Stranded and Avalance are her first novels for teen and young adult readers. Onna Konicek, the editor, received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin. She is an avid traveler and competitive big mountain snowboarder. She completed her doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University and works as a traveling emergency room doctor.
