OverviewThe hero of this book is Kleenex, a North Atlantic right whale, and one of the most endangered animals in the world. (Scientists named her Kleenex because of the white spot on her head.) In this charming tale, written from Kleenex's perspective by fifth graders at a public elementary school in Park Slope, Brooklyn, the whale explains the threats to her species' survival and her important role as a matriarch to more than 20 descendants. She recounts her epic yearly migration and the dramatic story of how she became entangled in fishing rope--and how rescuers have tried to set her free. This book is the sixth in PS 107's One Special Animal series. All proceeds from the book are donated to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, to assist their marine conservation program.
