Overview

This is a screenplay base on the book and personal memoirs, One Four Man Up, by Robert E. Hunt. The screenplay chronicles the thirteen month tour of duty that Bob served in Vietnam in the Marines. Bob's tour of duty saw lots of action with his first encounter with the enemy coming just days after his arrival. Less than a month later he was wounded in action. Bob served as a tactical air control man, commonly referred to as the One Four Man taken from his radio call sign. It was his job to control anything that flew in support of his Marine unit. Upon his return home from combat duty, Bob began having recurring nightmares that lasted for 20 years. He found that the world had changed and it wasn't good to be a Vietnam veteran. He was rejected and scorned for his service, but in 1988 he marched in a parade in Washington, DC with other Vietnam veterans. It was the 4th of July, and Bob finally got the welcome home parade he so desperately needed.

Robert (Bob) Hunt was born in Winchester, Virginia but spent most of his childhood in Norfolk, Virginia. He spent a short while in college after high school but found that a college education just did not suit him. In 1966 he quit college and joined the Marines, leaving for Vietnam in 1968 after completing boot camp, infantry training and MOS training. He was immediately thrust into combat upon his arrival and given the job of a line company tactical air control man, commonly referred to as the One Four Man. Bob was wounded within his first month in Vietnam and saw a lot of combat action during his 13 month tour of duty. Upon his return home, he found a different world than the one he had left. People were protesting the war and the Vietnam veteran had become hated and blamed for the failures of the war. Soon Post Traumatic Stress Disorder set in and Bob suffered constant nightmares due to an event that nearly took his life in October 1968. After struggling to fit in for over 7 years, Bob decided to join the Army so he could be back among those like him, Vietnam veterans. Bob struggled for 20 years with a new war, a war inside himself. Unable to talk to others about his experiences, Bob became hardened and took on an attitude of revenge against those who had turned on him. However, on the Fourth of July in 1988, Bob marched in a parade in Washington, DC where he finally was able to come to grips with his internal war and begin the healing process. Over the years since his return from Vietnam, Bob has retired from jobs in the banking industry and began his own business building historic model ships. Bob writes very detailed instructions on how to build the models and sells those instructions on his website. He has written thousands of pages covering the methods of intricate detailing in museum quality ship models and continues that business today.
