OverviewThe figure known as Luohan from the Museum of Asian Art in Berlin, which was donated to the museum's collection in 1991 by the Mohr Foundation of Ambassador Dr Ernst-Günther Mohr, can be clearly attributed to the Buddhist canon, but it is not entirely clear who it represents. What exactly is a Luohan or Arhat, and what distinguishes it? These and other questions will be clarified in the course of this work, and the iconographic features and characteristics of this figure will be examined on the basis of a comparative analysis.
