OverviewThese are perilous times, and people need to prepare to live in these troubled times by being informed about the challenging environment, patterning their lives in a healthy way, and seeking a level of maturity so they can cope and live in a way that brings stability and deep peace. A place of stability and purpose can be arrived at by engaging in a life that is patterned after the life and teachings of Jesus, called by the first generation of Christians the Way of Jesus. The central value of this pattern of living is unconditional love, a commitment to the truth and a life of integrity, and seeking a more just society that leads to a culture of peace and collaboration. People need to prepare themselves for this way of life by cultivating a deep spirituality that will empower them to thoughtfully, carefully, and fully commit to the divine mission of love. Table of ContentsReviews""On Following Jesus drives the reader to ponder a salient question: what could it mean to have God at the center of one's attention as one engages a troubled and unnerving world? Duncan Ferguson makes an appeal for readers to consider the way of Jesus as offering a fulfilling, humane, and loving answer. This is a psychologically astute, biblically focused, and theologically learned book, a compelling account by a respected and wise author."" --Mark Valeri, The Reverend Priscilla Wood Neaves Distinguished Professor of Religion and Politics in the John C. Danforth Center for Religion and Politics, Washington University in St. Louis ""On Following Jesus offers a culmination of the author's faith journey, academic posts, and previous books. This well-researched book glimpses Jesus as healer, teacher, and prophet. Dr. Ferguson embodies the mind of Jesus in his own life of commitment, openness, attentiveness to the world as it is at present, and hope based on the values of Jesus: truth, love, justice, and peace. Dr. Ferguson is vulnerable as he deals with the challenges of ministry where love in action is needed. Several sections cover practical aspects of following Jesus: faith development, compassionate communication at the end of life, and key scriptural passages explained clearly. This book is an essential resource in troubled times giving readers a framework for spirituality and service reflecting the heart and mind of Jesus."" --Lorraine Stuart, Spiritual Director, Honorably Retired, Cascades Presbytery ""An effective treatment plan for the spiritual ills of the contemporary situation! Ferguson invites us to look to the historical Jesus for the mindset and skills we need to navigate the perilous present. If you need a healing balm that is simultaneously a set of marching orders, look no further."" --Gordon S. Mikoski, Associate Professor of Christian Education, Princeton Theological Seminary ""This exceptional book is truly precious and inspiring. It combines rigorous scholarship with deep spiritual wisdom. The author's exploration of the life and ministry of Jesus is both compelling and transformative. Accessible to readers of all faiths, it encourages a God-centered life grounded in truth, love, justice, and peace."" --Jamal Rahman, author of Spiritual Gems of Islam Author InformationDuncan S.
