Overview

Fiddle tunes are primarily instrumental melodies, though some have words that can be sung optionally. Most originated as tunes for dancing, but people often play them today in social settings and performances that do not include dancing. Most fiddle tunes consist of two melodic parts, often referred to as the A and B parts. This book teaches twelve Appalachian fiddle tunes arranged for the mandolin. This book presents the arrangements both in standard notation and tablature, access to download the tunes online, as well as original artwork, photos, and valuable commentary. This collection also provides links to online sources containing information about the legendary fiddlers whose music is featured. As a fiddle and mandolin player, the author provides unique insights into old-time fiddle techniques and how they can be transferred to the mandolin.
