OverviewA collection of tattoos made from the 1940s through to the 1970s, photographed in the 21st century across America, Europe and Australia. In a time of absolute freedom and endless variation in tattoo culture, these images stand out for their bold and simple aesthetic gestures. They are the point which all tattoos promise to reach; a blurry embodiment of the passing of time, a permanent relic. Heralding from a time when tattoos meant something vastly different from what they mean today, they document a piece of living history and an echo from the past.
