This book examines hydrocarbon prospects in northwest Kenya, focusing on the geology, tectonics, and stratigraphy of four sedimentary basins-Lotikipi, Lake Turkana, Lokichar-Kerio, and Chalbi-within the East African Rift System, spanning Cretaceous to Tertiary periods.Tectonic evolution stems from Gondwana's Late Paleozoic breakup, with Mesozoic-Tertiary rifting producing lava flows, horst-graben structures, faults, and subsidence, fostering oil-prone environments. Recent Lokichar Basin discoveries highlight promising indicators.Using gravity mapping and seismic profiles, the analysis reveals subsurface faults, basement depths, and prospective zones. Basins feature 2,000-6,000 m thick sediments on Precambrian rocks, capped by Miocene basalts.Drilling data includes Tullow Oil's 2012 Lokichar prospects, wells LT-1/LT-2 (Tertiary), C1-C3 (Cretaceous), and CEPSA's 2017 Lotikipi exploration, confirming lithological potential.The study underscores northwest Kenya's untapped resources, guiding sustainable energy development in East Africa's emerging hydrocarbon sector.
