Rosario Castellanos (Ciudad de México, 1925 - Tel Aviv, 1974). Una de las autoras mexicanas más importantes cuya obra abarcó prácticamente todos los géneros: poesía, ensayo, teatro, relato y novela. Su infancia y adolescencia transcurrieron en Comitán, Chiapas, lo cual marcó profundamente su vida y literatura. Cursó la licenciatura y maestría en Filosofía en la UNAM, y otros estudios de posgrado en la Universidad de Madrid. Fue profesora en varias instituciones educativas en México y el extranjero, colaboradora del periódico Excélsior y de otras publicaciones. Además de ser uno de los íconos del feminismo latinoamericano, su labor literaria obtuvo importantes galardones, como el Premio Chiapas (1958) por Balún Canán, el Premio Xavier Villaurrutia de Escritores para Escritores (1960) por Ciudad Real, el Premio de Literatura Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1962) por Oficio de tinieblas, así como el Premio Carlos Trouyet de Letras (1967) y el Premio Elías Sourasky de Letras (1972), ambos en reconocimiento a su trayectoria literaria. Her childhood and adolescence took place in Comitán, Chiapas, which profoundly shaped her life and literature. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Philosophy at UNAM, and pursued further postgraduate studies at the University of Madrid. She was a professor at several educational institutions in Mexico and abroad, a contributor to the newspaper Excélsior and other publications. In addition to being one of the icons of Latin American feminism, her literary work received major awards, such as the Chiapas Prize (1958) for Balún Canán, the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize for Writers (1960) for Ciudad Real, the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Literature Prize (1962) for Oficio de tinieblas, as well as the Carlos Trouyet Prize for Literature (1967) and the Elías Sourasky Prize for Literature (1972), both in recognition of her literary career.
