OverviewDuring the 1872 the expedition party travelled by train, steamer, canoe, wagon, and horseback, from Halifax to Victoria. The expedition leader, Sir Sanford Fleming, was the Father of Standard Time, founder of the Royal Canadian Institute, designer of Canada's first postage stamp, author, artist, and town planner. George Monro Grant (1835-1902) was secretary of the expedition (and minister of the church Fleming attended). He later became principal of Queen's University, and moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Canada.
