CHARLES RAU (1826-1887) was a leading archeologist and curator of the Smithsonian Institution. ROBERT FLETCHER (1823-1912) was a highly regarded bibliographer and medical scholar who helped develop the Surgeon General's Library and served as a director of the New York Public Library. CYRUS THOMAS (1825-1910) was a prominent ethnologist and entomologist who proved that the mound builders of North America were Native Americans.
