OverviewFor as long as I can remember, I have had a heightened awareness of my surroundings. I sensed that I saw things a bit differently from other people, and often wondered why. I started writing about special moments that have stayed with me throughout my life to better understand their influence. Along with this writing, I was surveying the many thousands of photos I have taken from different times and locations, again, in an effort to distill what they mean to me. Both of these endeavors revealed several themes that form the basis of my approach to architecture. As a collection of personal essays and images spanning more than twenty years, Observations of an architect examines iconic places, common experiences, and seemingly unrelated occurrences through an architectural lens, introducing broader thoughts on creative expression, on human nature, and on the practice of architecture.
