OverviewThis small book is the first of a series of essays, written by Hellen Adom whilst studying for her MA at Goldsmiths University, London. Written by a Sickler, (a sufferer of Sickle-cell anaemia,) - for other Sicklers, their families and also for the medical profession, one of the main reasons for writing 'Nubian Minds, is that there appears to be little movement within the health structures, in finding ways to help people with life long dis-eases, aside from hospitalization, or contemporary methods such as drips, addictive painkillers or injections etc. Another reason was her being asked to attend a NHS Screening Program and then a few months later to sit on an advisory panel for sickle screening. The journey had begun.
