Nothing to Prove: True Life Ranger Stories

Overview

After 29 years of service as a California State Park Ranger, E. Simon Cavazos has written the story of what rangers and lifeguards deal with on a daily basis. The book title is Nothing to Prove: True Life Ranger Stories. The book offers an honest look at California Park Rangers and Lifeguards. Cavazos writes about the sadness of lives that could not be saved but also the joys of completing successful rescues. Cavazos also writes about State Park Peace Officers dealing with homicides, rapes, burglaries, arson, suicides and many other serious situations. Needless to say he mentions the frustrations of State %u201Cpolitics%u201D and the administration policy groups who at times had no clear understanding of what %u201Ccommon sense%u201D was all about. The majority of this book deals with the Santa Monica Mountain Range in Southern California. It covers how Rangers get involved in difficult rescues and other high-risk public safety situations; park professionals have been seriously injured and even killed in the line of duty and Cavazos writes about it. The book will make you cry but it will also make you laugh. Cavazos has a BS degree in Criminal Justice with several graduate courses in psychology. Today he is a licensed private investigator, but spends most of his time doing professional photography work, traveling and writing. He is a former Marine, serving time during the Vietnam Conflict. Prior to becoming a Park Peace Officer, he worked for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency in Los Angeles. While he worked as a Ranger he received a letter of commendation from the Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol for his participation in the Pacific Coast Highway Safety Corridor Task Force.
