Not Oatmeal Hikes the Appalachian Trail: A Coloring & Activity Adventure

Overview

Not Oatmeal Hikes the Appalachian Trail - A Coloring & Activity Adventure is a hands-on companion to the picture book 'Not Oatmeal Hikes the Appalachian Trail', inviting young adventurers to step onto the trail themselves through creativity and play. Inspired by the true story of a four-year-old who is the youngest officially documented person to hike the entire 2,000+ mile Appalachian Trail on her own two feet with her family, this coloring and activity book helps children explore themes of perseverance, bravery, kindness, and confidence in a fun and age-appropriate way. Designed for kids ages 4-8, the book features black-and-white coloring pages alongside simple activities that extend the story beyond the page. Children can color trail scenes, pack a backpack, create their own trail name, follow paths and mazes, learn basic outdoor safety ideas, and reflect on moments when they tried something hard or helped someone else. The activities are open-ended and flexible, allowing kids to move at their own pace...just like on a hike. Each activity reinforces the idea that even small steps forward matter, and that confidence grows by trying. Perfect for home, classrooms, libraries, road trips, and family adventures, this coloring and activity book supports early learning, emotional growth, and a love of the outdoors. It pairs naturally with the storybook Not Oatmeal Hikes the Appalachian Trail by Opye Bettis, while also standing on its own as an engaging activity book for young explorers. Whether your child has read the story or is discovering Not Oatmeal for the first time, Not Oatmeal Hikes the Appalachian Trail - A Coloring & Activity Adventure invites kids to color, imagine, and believe in themselves-one page at a time.

Author Information

The baby of the 32 Feet Up online adventure family, Opye Bettis made history as the youngest officially documented thruhiker to conquer the entire Appalachian Trail by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. And she received her Elite Athlete Permit by Baxter State Park, which was required in order to summit Katahdin. Her trail name is ""Not Oatmeal"" because after the beginning of her AT journey, for seven straight days, she wanted to eat nothing but oatmeal for every single meal and snack. She ate so much that after the first week, she begin to hate it. You could ask her if she wanted oatmeal and all she'd say is ""not oatmeal!!"" And start whining. It was whiplash. And she never ate oatmeal again.Like her older sisters, she's outgoing, opinionated, and unafraid to speak her mind, her spirited personality adding a dash of excitement to every moment.
