North of South Haven

Overview

Sometimes losing everything is the best way to find yourself. North Cooper's perfect life collapses after she learns of her husband's secret affair. She escapes to the comforting shores of Lake Michigan, drawn back to South Haven, the small town where she spent her early childhood. North is desperately searching for anything that will help her regain her footing and somehow find a path forward. Perhaps she can discover it in the familiar waves and sand of the quaint west coast town. She soon reconnects with Aunt El, a warm, fiercely protective figure from her past who offers refuge and a safe space to process her heartbreak. As North settles into the rhythms of lakeshore life, she confronts old wounds and unexpected truths, realizing that the path to healing is rarely straightforward-and sometimes, as hard as you fight against it, leads you exactly where you need to be.

Reviews

North of South Haven is a tender, expansive novel about the long way home and the people who meet us there. ... What unfolds is not just memory but rediscovery-delivered with humor, heartbreak, and unconditional love. This is a story about how the landscape of our youth can both wound and repair us; how an act of kindness can reroute a life; and how, even in our most broken moments, we may stumble into a version of home that fits better than the one we left behind. Anchored in place and written with a keen eye for the small gestures that change everything, North of South Haven reminds us that the world often offers second chances. We just have to be brave enough to turn toward them. -Doug Stanton, New York Times bestselling author of In Harm's Way: The Sinking of the USS Indianapolis and the Extraordinary Story of Its Survivors and Horse Soldiers North of South Haven is a glass of lemonade on a hot summer day-sweet, satisfying, and delicious! I adored this charming story of heartbreak and hope, shattered dreams, and new beginnings. In a world of uncertainty, North of South Haven takes its reader to a quieter, gentler place where hearts mend, dreams blossom, and friends become family. -Lori Nelson Spielman, international bestselling author of the The Life List North of South Haven is a story about North Cooper, a woman who must face upheaval and healing when she receives life-changing news from her husband. North of South Haven explores the emotional journey through moments of sadness to calm feelings of peace. This novel dives into the relationships between North and the people she knows and loves. As a bonus, it is also set against the backdrop of beloved Michigan cities and the comfort of good food and local wines. This book is for readers who have had to navigate the emotional toll from the complexities of marriage and understand that the end of something can sometimes lead to beautiful things. -Holly Mayes, author of Dream, Girl and the Gem series

Author Information

The majority of Rob Edwards's working life has been in the video and film production world, giving him ample experience with storytelling and the creative process. He has written throughout his career, and has won national and international awards for his work. He is now transforming his efforts to the page, rather than the screen. Anybody who met Dayna Marie Edwards remembers her as the sweetest person, the brightest light, and the kindest heart they ever knew. Dayna had experience in a variety of industries, from medical assisting, to banking, to helping run a plumbing company. But her true passion was in media. She was the face in many commercials and the voice on two radio stations. After earning her master's degree in communications, she was hired to start a media department within a Fortune 500 company. What she never let on was that she was a very talented poet and writer. After encouraging her husband to tell his stories, she came up with one of her own that they wrote together. Very sadly she lost her long battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2024, but her dream and her words live on in North of South Haven, and those lives she touched throughout her life will forever miss her.
