Reviews

This book offers an excellent insight into the optical property of functional nanostructures that is one of the frontiers of photonics, materials, physics, chemistry and nanotechnology. The elegant treatment of electrons and photons in nanostructures using the first-principles quantum mechanical theories, as well as the broad coverage from basic structures to passive components and active devices, makes it a unique reference for scientists and students interested in this area. --Prof. Limin Tong, Zhejiang University, China

Author Information

Ying Fu leads a biophotonics group at the Division of Theoretical Chemistry and Biology, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, focusing on semiconductor nanotechnologies of Si/Ge, III-V and II-VI nanoscale electronic and photonic devices and systems for applications in bio and medical fields. He is an active educator and researcher in the field and has published more than 200 papers. Min Qiu joined the Department of Microelectronics and Applied Physics at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, as an assistant professor. He became an associate professor in 2005 and a full professor (Professor of Photonics) in 2009. Prof. Qiu holds a Senior Researcher Fellowship from the Swedish Research Council. Currently, he leads the nanophotonics group at KTH.
